Lacking Wisdom..... Thursday's Blog Post { Day 269 }

 “ If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”  James 1:5  (NLT)

Here is this same verse in The Message:

“If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.

I love how it reads in both versions.  I need wisdom!  Oh boy do I need wisdom in my everyday life.  Parenting is hard…mothering is hard.  The most rewarding and most challenging job there is.  I would not give this job up ever but Jesus knows that it can get messy here before nine in the morning.  I can react to the chaos or I can turn to Jesus.  And asking for wisdom and guidance is something that needs to leave my lips daily.  Minute to minute even.

“Let your example and guide be Jesus, who always demonstrated a pure and humble heart towards others.”  ~Jane Austen Devotional

If I choose to react to the chaos ultimately I will feel awful and it will spiral down from there.  But, if I pause and turn to Jesus asking for his guidance and assistance in the mess then I can remain calm and keep the situation under control.

I’m not going to lie…it’s that pause….that is tricky.  Yep…I am more likely to jump over that pause and become a hot mess.  Why?  Why?  When I know that pausing is the answer?  Pausing helps me think and not mess up in my flesh!  Pausing helps me not to overreact and better than that…it shows my children Jesus in me!  Pausing helps me have a choice of whom I want to partner with in this situation ... God or Satan.”  Lysa TerKeurst   Who I want to partner with?  WOW!

Wisdom!  I love this parenting gig and need all the wisdom I can get.  Who better to get it from than the Father himself?  The Author of Life!

In her book, “Am I Messing Up My Kids?” Lysa TerKeurst says, “You are exactly the mom God knew your children needed.”  I repeat this to myself when I feel like I didn’t pause.

My prayer for increased knowledge and wisdom:

I pray that I always seek Your wisdom in all situations but mostly in my parenting skills.  I pray that my children see Jesus in me and aren’t ever afraid to come to me about anything.  I know that my flesh and my heart may fail, but you God are the strength of my heart and my portion forever (Psalm 73:26).  God you say in James 3:5 that “the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.  To consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.”  Oh how I want my words to speak life to my children.  How I want to build them up and not tear them down.  I pray that I will always choose my words carefully because You say that “A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.”  The words that come out of my mouth will stay with my children forever….let my words lift them up.  I pray that I pause and seek You for wisdom.  I pray that You God fill my gaps and forgive me when I mess up.  I pray that I come to You for my daily bread…my portion…Your wisdom… each and every single day.  In your Son’s name…Amen!

Worry? Proverbs 31 OBS Blog Hop

  This week's blog topic from Proverbs 31 OBS is on “Worry”… AND I know a thing or two about worry.  I’m betting a lot of you reading this do as well.  Dictionary.com defines worry as: “ to torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts; fret. ” Torment oneself.  Suffer.  Fret.  That’s what I can do to myself sometimes.   I’ve heard that if you worry you don’t really trust that God can handle it.  You don’t trust God with it.  That’s hard to swallow for me.  Because I worry about my kids, my family, me, friends, etc.  But I’m in the Bible every single day.  I am a Jesus girl.  So for me to worry and then see that my worry means I don’t trust that God can handle it is hard.  UGH.   I am getting better about it though.  My time with God every morning is helping.  When I start to worry about something…I begin to pray.  I stop the tormenting in it...

A Raging Battle.... Proverbs 31 OBS Blog Hop

On Sunday of this week, we started a new online Bible study with Proverbs 31!  I am so excited because I love anything Proverbs 31!  Our study this time around is by one of my favorite authors, Lysa TerKeurst….and her book, Made to Crave !  I have read this book already and it is amazing.  If you want to jump in on the study…please do!  Go here to sign up:  http://proverbs31.org/online-bible-studies/ This week for my blog topic I picked “A Raging Battle”   because food is not something I crave more than God…I crave other things.  God has shown me some things that I crave more than Him and it’s not pretty.  “My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord ; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”  Psalm 84:2 For three years now I have been doing a 365 photo a day blog and last year I started writing every Thursday about my faith and whatever was on my heart.  I felt...

Palms Up! { Day 220 }

This week, I started a new Bible study with Proverbs 31 on a book called “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God” by Lysa TerKeurst….and I’m excited for this study.  Really Excited!!   I haven’t always said Yes to God…in fact I have ignored Him and said no to Him a lot in my life.  Makes me sad to think of how many times I have been blind to all He has for me or to all the times He has tried to lead me in a different direction.  Fear and lack of confidence have always held me back from saying YES to Him.  Sometimes I think that I know which path is better for me to take and sometimes I feel like I could do it better.  Ouch!  Or sometimes I just feel like its too scary and I don’t like change too much.  Lysa TerKeurst talks in her book, “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God” about “Surprise Parties” and how it must break God’s heart when He has planned something for us and we are too tired to notice, too blind to see or we...
