“I
am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever
believes in me will never be thirsty.” ~Jesus
Hunger pangs – we’ve all experienced it
to some degree. The feeling of discomfort when your stomach muscles contract
letting you know that it’s been awhile since you’ve had food or water. If you
ignore it for too long you can get a headache, have decreased energy causing
you to feel weak, sugar levels can drop, you can become grouchy and confusion
can set in. The body has to work really hard to protect its vital organs when
all this happens. How much better we can feel just after taking a sip of water
and eating some food.
I see a lot of these symptoms in me when
my soul is starving.
We are told to pray for our “daily
bread” – both physical and spiritual.
There are people all around
starving…starving for God. I was one of those people. I still hunger for Him and His Word but I
fill myself up with Him daily so that I can pour out on my people and those
around me. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies – that’s not me – but I have
to work hard on my flesh and my heart to come along side of His.
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God
is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” ~Psalm 73:26
Throughout the Bible we see God use food to get the
attention of His people.
When we spend time in His Word and with Him – our souls
become full and we’re able to move easier in our day. If difficulties arise –
which they will – we’re able to deal with it better. We can pull from our “fuel
supply” and lean into Him.
Our souls were designed to crave Him…and Him alone.
This world is dark and full of people starving for God.
Let us be the light in this dark soul-starved world. I like to think of the
lightning bugs in the summer…how at night they light up the backyard. I think
of how we can light up other people with His promises.
Today, may we fill ourselves up with His love and
promises and be brave to move forward with Him. May we crave this daily
appetite for Jesus and let us not worry or fret or run away but instead let us
ask, seek, and knock on Heaven’s door and depend on Him like never before. Chase The Light…”Faith is coming to Jesus and drinking the water and eating the food
so that we find our hearts satisfied in Him.” ~John Piper, Future Grace
