Week 2:
Interrupted
“I am the vine; you are the
branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart
from me you can do nothing.” ~John 15:5
I have a million things to do today and a plan of attack
to get it all done…so please don’t interrupt me. This is how I begin the day. The night before, I was dreading all that had
to be done….and now before the sun is up; I’m stepping into my day with that
statement.
When we start to allow God to move into our hearts – He begins
to work in His ways and His timing. I
think He likes to interrupt us. I say this
because when He does interrupt us – it changes us. It begins to shape us into the image of His
Son. And isn’t that His point?
If I get interrupted – I typically get annoyed and then
regret sets in because I’ve said something maybe I shouldn’t have. If I could look at my interruptions the way
Jesus did – then maybe this is how my heart begins to change? To Jesus,
interruptions were about how to love on His people. His interruptions displayed
His love. Wow…I can honestly say that my
interruptions are not typically displayed by love.
Interrupt me God before I say something to my kids that
may hurt.
Interrupt me God before I pick social media over You.
Interrupt me God when my kids need me to stop what I am
doing.
Interrupt me God when I’m on the phone trying to do 2
things at once.
Interrupt me God when I hear you say, “Help the least of
these.”
This week, read Mark
5:21-42 and see how Jesus responded to His interruption.
*Nobody likes to be interrupted but what would happen if
we looked at it differently? What would
happen if we asked God to interrupt us and show us where we can love today?
This
week: Get
interrupted. Don’t look at the
interruptions as obstacles. Let God move in those interruptions and shape your
heart. May we look at our interruptions
this week as personal divine encounters from God.

Roses
and Thorns: At
the end of each day this week, write down a rose and a thorn on how you handled
your interruptions. Example: Today, my
rose was when my daughter wasn’t feeling well and needed me to just sit with
her. My thorn was feeling disappointed
in missing church because she was not feeling well. I felt like the sickness was an interruption;
however, maybe this was God’s way of slowing me down.
